soft cover notebook
This is a notebook I made for my friend Patrick. The fact that it had to be a soft cover notebook dictated many of my design decisions, since the instruction books I have on bookbinding only show me how to make hardcover books. So I came up with my own soft cover solution, and it was to use fabric and thread, instead of stiffening glue! The cover is made of cover stock paper, and fabric is sewed on top to strengthen and protect the cover.

Fabric is attached to the soft cover paper with glue and thread. The stitches allow the cover to stay flexible, whereas glue would have stiffened it. The notebook size is A4.

I first made the 60-page textblock by sewing five signatures together, then attached the cover.
