darkroom visit tomorrow

With only two more class sessions left at the community college, my summer vacation has practically started as of today, and I am already giddy with plans. Expecting to visit the local darkroom tomorrow, I spent this scorching hot Friday reading an Ansel Adams Guide to Basic Techniques of Photography in the air-conditioned library. Tomorrow will be my second darkroom visit, and if the place is set up similar to the one in the book, I will be able to come out with a roll of developed black and white film, a sheet of proof prints, and some enlargements made from negatives that I developed the last time I went to a darkroom.

As always, my problem is in wanting to do everything. Screen printing projects and fabric dying projects are in line. Eventually, the goal is to be able to focus on one thing and make it my specialty, but this week, at least, there is no rush, because it’s summer vacation!

“Ansel Adams Guide to..” is kind of revision of Ansel Adams’ “The Camera”, “The Negative”, “The Print” trilogy. I haven’t read “Guide to…” but the trilogy was real good. And “A Short Course in Photography” by Barbara London and Jim Stone is short and pictures of darkroom process is comprehensive. Time flies when you are making your prints. Have fun~

Thanks, I’ll look up the “short course..”.
It turns out that I’m better off going to San Francisco for the darkroom, which is an hour away from where I live. Does Seoul have darkrooms? Where do you go?
I’m sure time flies when making prints… Personally, I’m too impatient to get immersed in the slow processes of photography and pottery and printmaking, etc., but my dream life after retiring is to be doing exactly those things. Assuming that old age will bring more patience, that is.

I went to darkroom in suwon where i live but kind of far from my home. Attached to a small photo studio. I know two places in seoul. One is in chungmuro where there are lots of camera shops. It costs 10000per 2 hours but facilities are lousy. One is in hongdae with a real real good facility cost 20000per 3hours. Time limits are not that strict I suppose. I’ve just been two places in seoul but never really used them. But I’m thinking of going to the place in hongdae. They have 10 enlargers and also have dry mounting machine and dryers for rc and fiber papers.
