b&w photos 2

My second visit to the darkroom at Rayko turned out these prints:

all pictures taken in Cheong-gye chon market in Seoul, Korea in 2005

and

black and white print from a color negative.

While the last picture makes me smile, the prints were generally disappointing because everything came out so hazy!
This should have been expected though. First of all, I made prints from color negatives(fourth picture), to see if the prints would come out nice. I found out that the prints come out, but not crisp. Also, somehow, even the prints from my black and white negatives came out hazy, as you can see in the first three photographs.
The first three photographs were taken in Cheong-gye cheon market in Seoul, Korea. I was amazed at the amount of stuff that was stashed into each store, and the owners who work hard to make a living by selling one specific product. The person in the first picture makes keys. One of the people in the second picture sells hardware. The person in the third picture hauls a cart of cardboard to get paid for it. But they didn’t like people like me carrying cameras and taking pictures. I guess the way I was watching them, as if I were looking into a fishbowl, was disrespectful. And I guess the store owners were not very happy with their work.
The interaction between the human subject and the photographer shows in the result, and I hope to shoot more pictures that exude happiness, not guilt and gloom like today’s.
